- Story Text: Stars Jason Segel, Ed Helms and Susan Sarandon arrived on the red carpet Wednesday night (March 07) for the Los Angeles premiere of the comedy, "Jeff, Who Lives at Home."
Written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass, "Jeff, Who Lives at Home" tells the story of Jeff, A "slacker" played effortlessly by Jason Segel, who leaves his basement room on an errand for his mother (Susan Sarandon), only to discover his possible destiny, adulthood, adultery and brotherhood, and not necessarily in that order.
While the film is a comedy, it's more "smart" than slapstick.
"I mean it is not a take down your pants and looney kind of laughter, but they are very funny," explained Sarandon, about the films co-stars, Segel and Helms.
"But, what is more interesting is that they are very good and they are both smart. They are both really smart, maybe they pretend to be not as smart as they seem, but they are smart."
The co-stars reputation as serious comedic actors is well deserved, with such titles as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "The Hangover" respectively on their acting resumes.
"I think if you are thinking that it is working is that you are thinking to hard," said Segel, in talking about the art of making people laugh. "My goal has always been to be very natural, I think you feel that in comedy or in drama, when someone is improving. When I see someone who knows that they are doing a good job, I lose interest."
Helms, who plays "Jeff's" brother in the film, who has to deal with his wife having an affair, explained that you kind of know, when it is "working."
"How the room or the crew is reacting, and how am I reacting internally, do I think this is funny. A set that breaks a lot and laughs a lot is generally a productive environment for comedy," said Helms.
The film also stars Judy Greer.
