Summary:On May 15 1974 Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam was rounding off his campaign to be elected for a second term. Forced to go to the country by an alliance of opposition parties, Whitlam fought the campaign to win national backing for his radical home and foreign policies, over an opposition led by Billy Sneddon. He won, but with a reduced majority, which made his new term in office yet more difficult than the first.
