- Story Text: U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell arrived in Moscow
on Tuesday (May 14) night from Riyadh on the next leg of a
tour to explain U.S. Middle East policy after the overthrow of
Iraq's Saddam Hussein.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell is due to meet
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Igor
Ivanov on Wednesday (May 13). His agenda also includes talks
with Indian Foreign minister visiting Moscow, meeting with
students of the Russian diplomatic academy and visit to the
Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian
parliament.
Powell had arrived in Moscow from the Saudi capital, where
earlier suicide bombers killed at least 29 people in attacks
on expatriate housing compounds, one of the biggest suspected
al Qaeda strikes on Western targets.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Saudi officials
said Monday's attacks bore the hallmarks of Saudi-born Osama
bin Laden's al Qaeda network, blamed for the September 11,
2001 attacks on U.S. cities.
