- Story Text: Latin pop star Ricky Martin performed in Beirut to a sell out crowd on Saturday (May 27) as part of the Beiteddine festival. Thousands of Lebanese fans of the Puerto Rican born pop sensation gathered at the Beirut International Exhibition Centre for the singers debut Middle Eastern show.
Fans had arrived at the venue hours before the doors opened all hoping to get as close to the stage and as close to Ricky as possible.
"I'm so glad that it's the first time that Ricky visits Lebanon so its very good for Lebanon. The concert is very nice and Ricky's World Cup songs go with this period. Everyone is happy," said Maria Njeim who attended the concert.
"The concert is very nice with Ricky's Latin dance music. I dance salsa so I love Ricky, I'm so happy that he's here and the concert is amazing," added another fan Peggy Maroun.
As the lights dimmed, screams broke out all over the auditorium as Ricky Martin appeared on stage. The singer performed most of his hits alongside new tracks from his new album, "Life".
Tickets for the Ricky Martin concert, which is part of his "One Night Only" world tour, were selling for up to 150 dollars (USD).
Ricky Martin rose to fame as a member of the Latin American boy band Menudo after which he became a solo artist in 1990. He is considered a major star in the world of Latin Pop and is considered to have opened the doors for some of his fellow Latin American singers like Enrique Iglesias, Shakira.
