Summary:Darwin, northern Australia, December 26 1974 - the city woke up to review the devastation left in the wake of a cyclone which had ripped across Darwin the previous day. Eighty people were dead and 25,000 homeless. Nine out of ten homes in the city were unfit for habitation and the entire area was without water, gas or electricity.
