- Story Text: Paramount Pictures' film "Transformers: Age of Extinction" becomes the first film in 2014 to make $1 billion USD in global box office returns according to media reports including Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Paramount's fourth installment of their Transformers franchise, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" is the first film this year to surpass the $1 billion USD mark in global box office receipts as per entertainment trade publications. When asked for comment on Monday, August 4 at 1200GMT, Paramount Pictures in London referred all requests to the Los Angeles division.
Made for more than $200 million, the film pits Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and other Autobots against new villains. It met industry projections for its opening weekend.
The nearly three-hour movie garnered mostly poor reviews, with only 17 percent of 121 critics giving it a "fresh" rating, according to the site Rotten Tomatoes, but ticket buyers gave the film an A- rating according to polling service CinemaScore. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
