- Story Text: The colourful graduation ceremony for officer cadets was held at Teshie on Saturday (21 July) at the Ghana Military Academy with Head-of-State Colonhel Ignatius Acheampong taking the salute.
Saturday's graduation brought to about 750 the number of officers trained for the Ghanian armed forces by the Academy, set up to train Ghanaians to replace British officers after independence in 1961.
Colonhel Acheampong, Commander-in-chief of the armed forces, was the reviewing officer and presented awards to the top cadets. The Sword of honour went to Senior Undergraduate Officer E. Okyare and the Military ??? to Junior Undergraduate Officer J. Antonio.
Speaking after the awards, Colohel Acheampong told the cadets that a military caret was an arduous and often lonely one. He said the cadets the 15th group to enter the Academy -- were entering the Armed Forces at a time of challenge, when the military was trying to revive the economy and change the attitudes of the people.
He warned the cadets against politicians, "disgruntled ones", who were resorting to intrigue to try and scare the military into handing over power.
