Summary:Traditional celebrations greeted the entry of Pathet Lao forces into the Laotian town of Savannakhet on May 21 1975. Occupation of the town by the Pathet Lao communists meant virtually the end of the right-wing government which had been struggling to stay in power in the country. The triumph of the Pathet Lao came only one month after the fall of Saigon and the victory of the communists in Vietnam.
