- Story Text: INTRO: Cuban Debora Andollo smashed her own free diving world record by plunging three metres past her previous best of 62 metres.
Andollo's only regret after surpassing the mark she set just over a year ago was that she had not done it faster.
"I would have liked to complete the dive in less time like I had done during my training," she said.
"I would have liked to make a more direct descent, but I am happy with myself because I overcame natural adversities. That makes me happy," said Andollo after making the successful dive off the Isla de la Juventud near Cuba.
Strong currents made the dive more difficult for the 30-year old athlete, who says that at times she became disoriented and lost sight of the rope measuring the dive.
It took Andollo two minutes and 32 seconds to descend the 65 meters, establishing a new record in the "Constant Ballast" category, which entails using a kilogram of weight around the waist of the diver during the descent and ascent in order to stabilize the dive.
Andollo broke her previous world record of 62 metres set in October 1996.
