Summary:Dr. Henry Kissinger flew to the Middle East for talks late in August. For nearly two breathless weeks the US Secretary of State travelled almost non-stop between Egypt, Syria and Israel, hoping to achieve further agreement on military disengagement and Israeli withdrawals. There was support for Kissinger among Israel's left-wing youth, but the politicians were harder to convince. As negotiations at Israel's Knesset continued to progress and arrangements for a US presence in Sinai were also being debated, religious and right-wing groups voiced strong disapproval in Jerusalem. Eventually, however the 'shuttle diplomacy' - as it had become known - paid off. NOTE: Date is approximate. This clip may contain footage from multiple events; exact date or dates may be unknown.
