- Story Text: A Nigerian soothsayer has predicted that Brazil will emerge the winner of the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa and that Nigeria will reach the quarter-finals.
A Nigerian traditional medicine man and soothsayer has predicted that the Brazilian national team will emerge champions at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and cautioned his own team, the Super Eagles, that they will need luck to make it to the quarter-finals.
John Adatiri, a 78-year-old self-acclaimed specialist in communications with underworld mediums, said that after consulting his magic mirror on two consecutive days, Brazil had emerged top of the teams that would take part in the 2010 world Cup.
The Lagos-based soothsayer also said that Nigeria's Super Eagles will reach the quarter-finals, but will need some luck to do it.
Adatiri said he has practiced his trade since 1952 and has treated thousands of people suffering from different ailments and problems, ranging from barrenness to madness. He added that his ability came from a powerful oracle which guided him how to heal and to foresee the future for his clients.
In spite of these abilities to change the outcome of certain events in life for his clients, said Adatiri, he would not use his powers to assist the Super Eagles overcome any opponents at the 2010 World Cup, because that would be a sin.
Street soccer players in Lagos were divided between predicting Brazil and Nigeria as champions.
"I believe Nigeria will win the World Cup," said Mustafa Momodu.
Joshua Wilson differed.
"From the look of things, Brazil can win the World Cup, because they have the quality of players that will play well," he said.
Brazil are many bookmakers' favourites to win the world cup, while Nigeria are in Group B with South Korea, Greece and another leading contender, Argentina. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
