- Story Text: Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o received the African footballer of the year award for the third time running in a colourful ceremony held at the international conference centre in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday (February 16).
The Barcelona star beat other highly rated stars Didier Drogba of the Ivory Coast and Ghanaian international Michael Essien to win the award. Drogba placed second while Essien was third.
Nigerians were not left out in the award, with 18-year-old Mikel Obi named the continent's best young player.
