- Story Text: Nigerian fans celebrated their 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their second World Cup group stage match outside Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba on Saturday (June 21).
After a disappointing goalless draw against Iran, Nigeria won on a 29th-minute goal by Peter Odemwingie. The victory was exactly what fans were hoping for.
"This match was a must-win and we went ahead and we won the match," said Chris Obiekeve, a Nigerian from Lagos. "The next match will be against Argentina and we are going to win the match against Argentina."
Nigeria's win was the team's first World Cup victory since 1998.
"We are very happy as Nigerians to go through this group, we're hoping to beat Argentina in our next match," Sani Abdullah, another Nigerian from Lagos, said.
The game also sent Bosnia and Herzegovina to an early exit from the tournament, which was their first appearance ever in the World Cup.
"I think that we were not on the level, on the World Cup level, but also we didn't have fortune at the end of the game," said Nemana Nesic, a Bosnian from Serbia. "I'm still a little bit on the emotion about Dzeko not scoring the goal, but unfortunately, we have to go home."
Bosnia remains winless in its two World Cup matches. The team will next face Iran on June 25.
Mirsad Huseimbasic, a Bosnian from Sarajevo, said the team simply needs more luck.
"We are so disappointed, Bosnia was supposed to play one game in which we show a certain quality, we didn't have luck, the referee was a little bit off, we hope next time we'll have more luck," Huseimbasic said.
