Leaders of the four parties attempting to form an alliance have separately accused the NPN of rigging the elections, held over the past three weeks to elect members of the House of Senate, the Federal House of Representatives and the State House Assemblies. - Story Text: Leaders of four of Nigeria's five political parties have been holding crucial talks on a possible alliance to prevent the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) from winning the coming presidential election. The four-party alliance has brought together two old rival in Nigerian politics -- Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe of the Nigerian People's Party (NPN) and Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). The "power-broker" in the possible agreement has been the leader of the Great Nigerian People's Party, Alhaji Waziri. The fourth person still to join the talks is Alhaji Aminu Kano, of the People's Redemption Party.
SYNOPSIS: After the first round of ???, Dr. Azikiwe and Mr. Waziri explained to newsmen that they would meet gain when Aminu Kano arrived.
Mr. Kano, is considered the strong man from the populous state of Kano in Northern Nigeria. His participation in the four party alliance is considered crucial to prevent the NPN presidential candidate from being elected.
