- Story Text: In Bangkok over the weekend (25 November), Thai students gathered on the Thammasat University campus for the first big demonstration against the??? of Japanese consumer goods in Thai shops.
About ??? students took part in the march which was intended to climax a week of boycotting Japanese goods throughout the country.
After ending its way through Bangkok's main streets, the march came to a ??? near a busy intersection when the students staged a sit-down protest to further their arguments.
Some on the demonstrators handed out leaflets to cars and passersby.
The students, with the public support of the Thai Royal Family and government leaders in the Ruling Executive Council, were denouncing the Japanese economic influence on the country, citing the high balance of payments deficit between Thailand and Japan and the in-creasing number of Japanese goods being made available in Thai shops as the main reasons for the boycott.
Le??? demonstrations are expected to take place later this week.
