  • Story Text: German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has welcomed his
    Estonian counterpart Juhan Parts to Germany with military
    honors.



    Topics of the meeting between the two European
    leaders on Monday (November 24) included bilateral
    relations, and regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea area.

    Specifically, Schrder and Parts spoke about the
    expansion of the European Union, which will take on ten new
    members, including Estonia, next year.

    Prior to Estonia's EU referendum earlier this year,
    Parts' political party Res Publica actively lobbied for
    joining the Union. Estonia is slated join the Union on May
    1, 2004.
