Summary:Poisonous gas from a Swiss-owned chemical factory at Seveso was released into the atmosphere with devastating results. The gas was of a type used for weed-killers and defoliants. Vegetation and animal life for some miles around the plant were affected by the fall-out. Hundreds of families were evacuated from the area and a number of children were admitted to hospital suffering from the effects of the toxic gas.
