- Story Text: QUEEN ELIZABETH SPENT ANOTHER QUIET DAY TODAY (SUNDAY) AT SALEM - VISITING THE SCHOOL WHERE HER HUSBAND, PRINCE PHILIP, WAS A PUPIL FOR TWO YEARS DURING HIS BOYHOOD. TOMORROW THE STATE TOUR RESUMES IN STUTTGART.
THE QUEEN IS STAYING AT SALEM WITH SEVERAL OF THE DUKE'S RELATIONS. THIS MORNING SHE STROLLED IN THE GROUNDS ESCORTED BY PRINCE MAX OF BADEN, THE DUKE'S NEPHEW.
THE DUKE WAS AT SALEM IN THE THIRTIES AND SOME NEWSPAPERS IN BRITAIN SPECULATE THAT PRINCE CHARLES MIGHT GO THERE. THE PRINCE OF WALE'S SCHOOL AT GORDONSTOUN IN SCOTLAND WAS FOUNDED BY SALEM'S EXILED JEWISH HEADMASTER (DR.KURT HAHN) AFTER THE NAZIS CAME TO POWER IN 1933.
THE SCHOOL IS PART OF SALEM CASTLE, THE HOME OF THE DUKE'S SISTER, THE MARGRAVINE THEODORA OF BADEN. HIS TWO OTHER SISTERS ARE ALSO IN THE FAMILY PARTY - PRINCESS MARGARITA OF HOHENLOHE-LANGENBURG AND PRINCESS SOPHIE OF HESSE.
(THE VISIT BY THE ROYAL-BLUE BLOOD OF BRITAIN - ORIGINALLY HANOVERIAN - COMES 15 YEARS AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR FORMALLY ENDED. THE QUEEN IS MAKING THE FIRST ROYAL STATE VISIT TO GERMANY SINCE EDWARD VII CALLED ON THE KAISER.)
