- Story Text: Doting fans had lined up all night outside London's Clarence House in the United Kingdom to wish the country's Queen Mother a happy 95th birthday on Friday (August 4) .
The Queen Mother, affectionately called the "Queen Mum", spent 45 minutes with the adoring crowd of well wishers.
She alternated between sitting and standing with her walking-stick to receive dozens of cards and bunches of flowers from children dressed in their best outfits.
Undaunted and eager to talk to her fans, she was supported by an escort as she walked up the road to greet the waiting crowd, some of whom had travelled from all over the world to see her.
After the walkabout, she was transported by a type of golf-buggy back into Clarence House.
The Queen Mother, recovering from a cataract operation and sometimes forced into a wheelchair by her frailty, has maintained her popularity throughout 60 tumultuous years for the House of Windsor.
She later emerged from Clarence house for a second time, accompanied by Prince of Wales and Princes William and Harry and waved and smiled as the King's troop Royal Horse Artillery passed by.
She hosted a family lunch later in the day, for three generations of her family and well-wishers sang Happy Birthday outside her home. Military gun salutes thundered out across Hyde Park and The Tower of London.
The Queen Mother, propelled into the limelight together with her husband George when King Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 to marry an American divorcee, won the hearts of a nation as she comforted bomb blitz victims in World War Two.
Fans came from as far away as Australia and the United States and enjoyed the celebrations as much as their British friends for whom the Queen Mum's appeal has never faded.
