Summary:A welcome in Peking for Singapore leader Lee Kuan Yew and a meeting with the ageing Chairman Mao Tse-tung. These were among the last pictures taken of the Chinese leader, who died on September 9 1976. He was then aged 83 and had been leader of China's communist movement for half a century. More than any other political leader this cen- tury, Mao fundamentally changed the pattern of the world. He hauled China out of the past and made it a 20th century power.
