- Story Text: US Pop diva Lady Gaga performed to a full capacity outdoor venue on Sunday (July 3) in Taichung, in central Taiwan.
There were large screens outside the venue for those unable to make it inside. The China Post reported that around 40,000 people crowded outside to catch a glimpse of the showbiz phenomenon.
It was a short promotional set but fans were rewarded with an extra 5 unscheduled songs.
Lady Gaga was earlier honoured by Taichung mayor Mayor Jason Hu who presented her with the city's key and declared Sunday "Lady Gaga Day."
Styled in a vintage Gianni Versace red suit and a leopard print bag, Lady Gaga repaid the fans kindness and hospitality.
"I just wanted to thank you so much for having me. It's such an honour to be here in Taichung -- I am so happy. And as in my first visit to Taiwan, I can say your country is so beautiful and you are all so wonderfully kind and gracious. Thank you for inviting me," she said.
She promised a full-scaled concert in 2012 will follow.
"It will be next year, but tonight it's going to be really amazing. I am so excited and I always give every single concert my absolute 150 percent, so tonight it's going to be a blast for anyone who's there," she added.
The city presented Lady Gaga with a Chinese brush painted portrait, a wooden sculpture and a necklace made by a group of aboriginal children of the Atayal tribe, who also dedicated a performance to her.
A Lady Gaga-inspired styling competition and parade were hosted by Mercedes-Benz Taiwan later in the day.
Outfits ranged from firework sparklers crackling from a contest's chest to a real pig head accessory on another. A couple also wore a meat bikini top and vegetable outfit inspired by Lady Gaga's famous meat dress.
The youngest fan in the competition was three-year-old. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
