Summary:The American space shuttle 'Enterprise' made its first solo flight in August. It had flown before, but only on the back of its parent Jumbo 747. This time it was released at a height of about 25,000 feet (7,600 metres) and glided back to earth alone. The shuttle, which carried a two-man crew, is designed to ferry men and scientific instruments to space stations in the 1980's.
