- Story Text: Thousands of once warring soccer fans were on Thursday (May 15) united in their opposition towards the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his politics towards Ukraine.
Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk supporters marched together to the stadium in Poltava to watch 2014 Ukrainian Cup Final chanting anti-Putin slogans and singing Ukrainian national anthem.
"There are no divisions in our country, today our country is united and all people present here in Poltava today support the unity of Ukraine, that's firstly, and secondly - they support two great (soccer) clubs which are here in Poltava today," said fan of Poltava Vorskla soccer team Alexander.
The final was supposed to be played in Kharkiv, but because of the clashes there between pro-Russian separatists and soccer fans who support united Ukraine the Ukrainian Football Federation moved the game to Poltava.
It had also decreed no fans would be allowed to watch the match inside the stadium.
But fearing more trouble after the fans complained they reversed their decision and the march passed off peacefully in Poltava. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
