- Story Text: The Bayern Munich squad held a training session on Saturday (January 31) after the crushing 4-1 defeat at Wolfsburg on Friday (January 30) evening.
Second-placed VfL Wolfsburg breathed new life into the Bundesliga title race with a 4-1 win over leaders Bayern Munich, who lost their unbeaten record in a dramatic restart to the league after the winter break.
Coach Pep Guardiola rested the players from Friday's defeat except for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as they prepared for Tuesday's (February 3) Bundesliga match against Schalke.
Despite the defeat, Bayern fans watching the squad at the training ground remained behind their team.
"I am sure that Bayern will rally again," said Bayern fan Marcel Zimmermann. "Sure, it was very bad yesterday. But I think they will rally again. And we will stand up against everybody again."
And fan Marco Adam had similar thoughts.
"Well, 4-1 is a very clear result. But whether that will say anything about the second part of the Bundesliga season, I don't know. But I don't think that there will be many problems for Bayern."
Fan Frank Richter said it might even give Bayern the chance to learn from their mistakes.
"Well, it was the first match after the winter break. Maybe it was good to see what errors they can make and all. But it happened. And now they must be more concentrated in their attacks," he said.
Wolfsburg, with 37 points from 18 games, have cut Bayern's lead to eight points, although it would still take a dramatic turnaround for the title holders to be caught. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
