- Story Text: AC Milan unveiled their new coach Fatih Terim on Monday
(June 18) and the Turk vowed to build a team that could win on
all fronts.
Terim has signed a two-year contract and replaces
Cesare Maldini who returns to his previous role as chief
scout.
Former Italy coach Maldini had acted as caretaker coach
following the dismissal of Alberto Zaccheroni in March.
The move marks a swift return to Serie A for Terim who
quit Fiorentina in February after just 20 games in charge.
"I am very happy to be at AC Milan. I know I have arrived
at a great club with a great team" Terim told reporters at
their Milanello training ground.
"I want a great team on the field - a team that can win at
home and on the road", said the former Galatasaray boss.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani, speaking of Terim's
contract said:
"There is a two-year contract with a salary already
clarified and this salary does not change depending on
results. When certain results have been achieved there will
be, as always, a bonus which in our club is the same for
players and trainers."
But there was confusion when Terim, speaking in broken
Italian, was asked about whether he felt he need new signings
to strengthen the team. Terim appeared to suggest that he
wanted new faces. Galliani reminded Terim the club already had
41 registered players but suggested the coach speak in Turkish
to make things a bit easier to understand.
"I know AC Milan has 41 players", Terim said. "We hope to
sell some of them. I have no plans to buy any players from
Turkey even if some newspapers have written that more players
will arrive in Milan. I don't anything about that", he said.
