Summary:Big crowds turned out in November 1977 in Salisbury, Rhodesia, to hear Bishop Abel Muzorewa declare that his followers were prepared to talk with Prime Minister Ian Smith about an election based on the principle of 'one man - one vote'. When elections were finally held, early in 1979, Muzorewa's party won - and the Bishop became the first elected Prime Minister of what is now known as Zimbabwe.
