- Story Text: Mexican police detained a former producer of the "Survivor" television series on Thursday (April 8) on suspicion of murdering his wife, whose body was found near a luxury hotel where they were staying in Cancun.
He was released from detention in the early hours of Friday.
Bruce Beresford-Redman's Brazilian wife, Monica, went missing on Monday from the Caribbean resort where they were on vacation. Her body was found in mangroves near the hotel.
Veronica Acacio, a senior official with the state attorney's office in Quintana Roo state, told Reuters an autopsy showed that Monica Beresford-Redman choked to death after a blow to the head.
Bruce Beresford-Redman, a former U.S. producer for the hit reality series "Survivor" and co-creator of the car make-over show "Pimp My Ride," had cuts and bruises on his arms, said state Attorney General Melchor Rodriguez.
An agent for Beresford-Redman could not immediately be reached.
Created in 2000, "Survivor" takes contestants to remote and exotic places and pits them against one another in a series of challenges. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
