- Story Text: About 50 people danced in Prince Alfred Park in Sydney on Thursday (February 14) as part of a global campaign to end violence against women.
One Billion Rising is an international campaign initiated by Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler to end violence against women by raising awareness through creative action and dance.
Men, women and children joined organiser Joanne Knight to dance to "Break The Chain", written and produced by Tena Clark.
"One billion people women on the planet are beaten or raped or violated in their lifetime and that's an atrocity so one billion women dancing is a revolution," said Knight.
In Bangladesh, men and women came out to rally in the streets.
Many carried placards reading "stop violence against women" while standing by the busy road.
"Today we are here to raise One Billion Rising. So we just want to create awareness against violence against women issue. It's a raising issue all over the country, all over the world, so we just want to raise it, violation against women is a serious crime," said Kaneez Taposhi, a protester.
The campaign aims to spur governments and the world into action to resolve the issues of violence. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
