- Story Text: Panamanian police seize $4 million in counterfeit U.S. currency and arrested five Colombians as they dismantled a counterfeit operation that printed 100-dollar bills.
Panamanian police uncovered an international criminal operation that printed counterfeit 100-dollar bills on Friday (March 26).
Police Chief Gustavo Perez said police were able to prevent millions from hitting the street.
"It's historical because we were able to seize four million counterfeit dollars, counterfeit money that won't go out and circulate in the streets," he told reporters at police headquarters.
Police arrested five Colombians in the pre-dawn raid.
Authorities found a printing press, ink, paper and negatives for 100-dollar bills at the counterfeit printing operation which was housed in a private residence in Panama City. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
