Summary:Political attacks on the Shah of Iran have put his throne in real danger. The Shah appointed a new government, and made concessions to religious opinion; but the demonstrations and strikes went on. The Army 45 was called on to suppress them by force. Hundreds - some say thousands - died. Martial law was imposed in a dozen cities after the disturbances of 'Black Friday', September 8th.
