Summary:Vietnam produced its tide of refugees: the boat people. Nearly a thousand reached Hong Kong in the freighter Sibonga which had picked them up from their sinking junks. Ships masters were bound by the tradition of the sea to rescue anyone in distress; they then faced the problem of what to do with people nobody seemed to want. These were the lucky ones. No-one knows how many drowned at sea. NOTE: Date is approximate. This clip may contain footage from multiple events; exact date or dates may be unknown.
