Summary:Britain paid its last tributes to Lord Mountbatten with all the ceremonial due to a distinguished officer and a member of the Royal family. He was an uncle of Prince Philip. Lord Mountbatten had been Chief of Combined Operations and Supreme Commander, South East Asia, during the second world war; and later the last Viceroy and first Governor General of India. He was 79. Queen Elizabeth and all her family were present at the memorial service.
