Summary:In September the Emperor Bokassa was overthrown. The coup was organised by Bokassa's cousin David Dacko. He became President of the renamed the Central African Republic. An enquiry by 5 African states had confirmed reports by Amnesty International that schoolchildren had been tortured and murdered on the Emperor's orders; and that Bokassa had almost certainly taken part in the atrocities himself.
