Summary:Chairman Hua Guofeng appeared before the National People's Congress in Peking on September 7 to tell the members that he would no longer be Prime Minister as well as Chairman of the Communist Party. He had held the two posts together since soon after Mao Tse-tung's death. Chairman Hua asked the Congress to approve the nomination of Zhao Ziyang in his place as Prime Minister.
