Summary:Two severe earthquakes in the later part of 1980: one reduced the flourishing Algerian city of El Aznam to ruins on October 10 - leaving some 20,000 dead and 50,000 injured. Then, late in November (23/24) a large area of Southern Italy, from Naples to Sicily, was devastated. In El Aznam, rescuers found a two-month old baby alive three days buried in the rubble.
