Summary:Fighting in the Bekaa Valley in April reflected the extent to which Lebanon remained an international cockpit. The immediate objective of the Arab League peace-keeping force was to check attempts by Lebanese Christians to extend their positions in the heights around Zahle. But the Arab League force was largely Syrian, and the Christians had Israeli support. Syria feared an Israeli attack by way of the Bekaa Valley. NOTE: Date is approximate.
