Summary:One of the world's worst railway disasters happened in Bihar, northern India, in June. Seven coaches plunged off a bridge into the Bagamati River. Some say a cyclone swept them off; others that the driver braked hard to avoid a man and buffalo. The official death toll was 268; but it was not certain that all the bodies had been re covered.
