- Story Text: Syria's Talaqie Television said on Friday (November 21) it broke a Guinness World record for the world's longest live television talk show, broadcasting for 70 hours non-stop.
The current record for the longest marathon television talk show is 62 hours 12 minutes and is held by News 24 TV in Nepal, Guinness World Records said.
The Syrian TV channel claims to have beaten that by 7 hours and 48 minutes.
The show was titled "From Syria with love" and hosted more than 100 politicians, actors, singers and even cooks.
The talk show was hosted by Syrian presenters Areej al-Zayat and Rein al-Mleih. They were joined by Syrian information minister Omran al-Zoabi to celebrate the end of the broadcast.
"From Talaqie to all the world we wanted to say Syrians are amazing, Syrians are an alive.. they are alive. They can achieve achievements and they can, they deserve to live, they deserve the peace and they deserve to be great and amazing. Thank you everyone for all your support," Al-Mleih said.
The director of the show al-Houmam al-Bahloul said the performance was as important as a mention in the Guinness Book of records.
"The most important thing is the achievement. It is more important than whether we entered the Guinness book or not. For me, what is important is that we completed this achievement. We have done something that has never been done in the world, I believe. This is enough for me," al-Bahloul said.
Sulaf Fawakhirji, a Syrian actress who took part in the show, praised the organisers of the event describing them as 'heroes'.
"This is a very nice thing. It is a nice idea to attract people. I had no doubts that they will succeed and here we are in the last 70th hour. I admire them as heroes. They are really heroes because they proved that we are able to do anything we want," Fawakhirji said.
The show was widely followed on social media, the channel said.
The channel also said that it will send all the proofs required to obtain the official certificate from Guinness.
Guinness World Records said on Monday (November 24) they have received the claim but were waiting for the evidence to be submitted.
