Summary:Despite controversy over the transplant of a baboon heart into a baby girl the child's parents and doctors defended the controversial operation. The child, simply called "Baby Fae" was given the animal's heart in October; she was born with hypo-plastic left-heart syndrome and became the longest-surviving human with an animal heart. Baby Fae died on November 16, after her condition deteriorated.
