Summary:Reagan won re-election to the US Presidency on November 7 by one of the biggest margins in US political history. He beat his Democratic Party rival, Walter Mondale, in 49 of 50 states, capturing 525 of the 538 votes in the Electoral College. Reagan's landslide surpassed the previous record of Franklin D Roosevelt who gained 523 votes in the Electoral College of 1976.
