- Story Text: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother will visit the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in May, and it is expected that she will accept an invitation to open the Central African Trade Fair and Royal Agricultural Show at Bulawayo, Rhodesia, which builders are rushing to complete by mid-May.
Main features include a slender 165 feet high skylon around which the show is being planned, and a great concrete arched hall, 250 feet long, 45 feet high and over 200 feet wide containing 26,000 feet of space to contain stands. Over 100 pavilions are being built as well as a passenger-carrying model railway.
The Trade Fair will cost in the region of half a million pounds and exhibitors from many foreign countries will participate.
The Queen Mother is visiting the Federation for about 2 weeks and the main object of her visit is to open the GBP110 million Kariba Dam on the Zambesi River. The Queen had hoped to go to Africa for the ceremony but with her third child expected had to cancel her plans.
