- Story Text: The world's largest telecommunications trade show,
Telecom'99 + Interactive'99, kicks off today with more than
1,000 key players in the converging telecommunication,
computing and broadcasting industries expected to participate.
As the world prepares to greet the new millennium, the
8th World Telecom and 2nd Telecom Interactive opens its doors
in the Swiss city of Geneva on Saturday (October 9).
Over 1,000 exhibitors together with 200,000 visitors in a
floor space of 65,000 square meters makes telecom'99 what it
is -- the biggest telecommunications event in the world.
ABB Power Supplies, Zydacron and giants such as Ericsson,
Microsoft, Nokia and Siemens will be sharing the limelight
during the one-week show.
"Telecom is part of ITU's (International Telecommunication
Union) continuing efforts to promote international
telecommunications as a prime driver of global activity,"
Telecom President Jean-Patrick Bare said.
Since its beginning in 1971, Telecom has been responsible
for showcasing many technological advances such as ISDN,
satellite broadcasting systems, ATM and cellular phones.
"You should not miss Telecom'99 or you might just miss the
next millennium", Bare said.
The exhibition runs until October 17.
