- Story Text: A more risqué Valentine's Day for many kicks off one of the world's most popular sex expos in Mexico City.
The inauguration of a sex expo marked Valentine's Day (February 14) in Mexico City, where the typical Valentine's Day fare of saccharine cards and candy hearts was replaced by staples from the adult entertainment industry.
Visitors strolled through two pavilions with stands overflowing with pornographic films, erotic literature, lingerie and sex toys.
Organizer Alberto Kibrit said the purpose of the expo was to have some fun and promote adult entertainment.
"We hope there will be more exposure, that people have a lot of fun and, well, that adult entertainment industry opens up more," Kibrit said.
The opening of the event, called Mexico City Entertainment and Sex, also included strip shows, conferences about sex, and the presence of big names in the industry like Ron Jeremy, Brooke Heaven and Stormy Daniels.
While some excited visitors mugged with strippers and did a little erotic dancing of their own, other like a young man named Agustin said he came to fortify his union with his partner.
"To identify ourselves more as a couple- to discover new little things. It takes more than simple daily playing to get out of the routine," he said.
The expo is put on by sex shops owners and considered one of the world's most visited.
The show is not all about sex- this year - actors and dancers are gathering funds for local aids prevention organizations.
And one female visitor at the expo said the presence of women indicated the opening up and empowering of females within the relationship in a country notorious for machismo.
"I think women in Mexico have started to leave behind what people will say and religion and our traditional roles as wives. Now we participate in choosing the toys we like, the ones we don't like, going to strip shoes together. The two of came together to look for magazines, oils, powders and many other things to share as a couple," the woman said.
For the second consecutive, a casting will be done between male and female assistants for a part in an adult movie. Last year 3 thousand people participated on this casting and the winner was Miguel Angel Gomez, who has already filmed 30 scenes of a film provisionally titled "Lucky Mexican".
One hundred thousand people are expected to visit the fourth edition of the expo before it closes on Sunday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
