- Story Text: Suspected gang hitmen entered a drug rehab center on Sunday (October 24) in the border city of Tijuana, Mexico, executing 13 people.
On Monday (October 25), police and relatives of the victims surrounded the center as investigators studied the scene. Mexican media indicated the attacks may be a response to the recent seizure of some 134 tons of marijuana.
The Spanish wire service EFE said two men with high-powered firearms entered the center on Sunday evening, lined up the patients and gunned them down.
Similar attacks have occurred in the past. Last June, 19 people were shot at a rehab center in Ciudad Juarez.
The Sunday attack came as families in Ciudad Juarez mourned one of Mexico's worst shootings, an attack that killed 14 people at a family birthday party.
Almost 30,000 have died in drug violence in Mexico since President Felipe Calderon launched a drug war in 2006. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
