- Story Text: Police found eight bodies dumped on a street in Mexico's richest city of Monterrey on Thursday (January 26), local and federal authorities said.
It is believed the victims were killed elsewhere and then disposed of at the site just before daybreak in a suspected flare up between the Zetas and Gulf cartels.
According to local media, the victims ranged between 20 to 30 years of age.
Monterrey, which lies about 230 km (140 miles) from the Texas border, is a relatively wealthy city of about 4 million people and is home to some of Mexico's biggest companies. It was for many years seen as a model of economic development but it has been ravaged by the drugs war over the past two years that has seen the death toll spiral.
Nationally, more than 46,000 people have been killed since Mexican President launched a bloody war against drugs trafficking. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
