Summary:Colombia's new president, Virgillo Barco, was inaugurated in Bogota on August 7. Leader of the country's Liberal Party, Barco, in his inauguration speech, promised that his government would work for a peace settlement with guerrilla groups and announced the formation of a special group to co-ordinate political, social and economic initiatives to achieve peace.
