Argentina and Mexico drew 1-1 on October 25, in a friendly soccer match which ended prematurely because of a pitch invasion. The game, in Buenos Aires, was the first in a South American tour the Mexican team is making in preparation for its hosting of the 1986 World Cup. The goals were scored by Gareca for Argentina in the 45th minute, and by Flores for Mexico in the 61st. Referee Juan Escobar of Paraguay ended the game four minutes before time, when abut 300 spectators invaded the pitch. The two sides also drew 1-1 when they met in the Mexican city of Monterrey last month. The Buenos Aires crowd booed the home team at the end of the match. Argentina were the 1978 World Cup champions while the Mexicans did not even qualify for the 1982 World cup tournament in Spain. The October 25 result was considered as a good omen for the Mexican team.
