  • Story Text: Fernando Altamirano Ruiz de Chavez, a giant in the world of alcoholic spirits, unveiled his newest creation considered to be the most expensive bottle of mezcal in the world on Wednesday (July 23) in Mexico City.
    With this bottle, Altamirano is commemorating 20 years in the business and as an artist. It took him over two years to complete.
    It is a very special bottle finished in crystal and bathed in 100 percent pure platinum.
    Altamirano said at a news conference that the bottle, valued at 55,000 euros ($74,000US), has already been sold.
    "The bottle 'The Shaman's Spell', finished in platinum, has been sold to a French citizen who boasts the most expensive, most exclusive and finest collection of wines and liquors in the world."
    The bottle contains the brand of alcohol Mezcal Meshico and the bottle is known as "The Shaman's Spell" with the image created by plastics artist Alejandro Gomez Oropeza.
    "The Shaman's Spell" is the first Bottle Art object in the world to contain Black Mezcal.
    The mezcal, with its 47 percent alcohol grade, is made 100 percent from agave from the southwestern region of Oaxaca. It is a 2014 limited edition blend with only 400 other bottles of this alcohol existing in the world.
    At the news conference, Altamirano announced that his latest creation had won a Guinness World Record making this his third from the international organisation.

    Along with his newest creation, Altamirano also displayed bottles of tequila, cognac and water that have earned him international prestige as a renowned designer of liquor brands.
    Mexico's traditional spirit mezcal, infamous as a firewater drink of the poor and for the worms bobbing around in its bottles, has recently become trendy and artistic.
