- Story Text: Naked 10 kilometre run.
As the holiday season begins in Finland, just a week before the
Midsummer solstice celebrations, the Finns are getting in the mood for
activities in the nature. In the Naked Run it is possible to run, walk or
Nordic walk 10 kilometres in a quiet forest landscape. According to the rules,
in this run, you are allowed to wear only shoes, socks and something on your
head. One of the aims of The Naked Run is to show that it is possible to
combine humour with sports.
"We want to bring some humour to running-happenings that are
normally without humour. People are not smiling, people are running fast,
sweating,
and with this happening we want to have fun, enjoy the Finnish nature,
beautiful this time of year and to have fun together" said Aarno Heino,
organizer of the event.
Asked if he is running with his clothes on he replied:
"Yes I have run 20 years as a hobby. For instance 2 weeks ago I
run the Stockholm marathon and it was my 12th marathon. But only once a year,
I run without clothes."
Some runners didn't hesitate to use their imagination concerning the
running outfit.
"Because when they arranged this it was a very funny happening and
of course I take part of this and it's very warm and nice weather to run"
10k runner "Kai" told Reuters.
The event has been running since 2003 - this year saw only around 40
participants but gathered a much larger audience, of about 300 spectators. The
run also attracted competitors from neighbouring Sweden. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
