Guido Genicco of Italy upset the favoured Gerry Helme of Britain on May 1 to win the eighth running of the Rome Marathon.
Genicco clocked 2 hours 20 minutes 43 seconds over the course that passed by such sites as the Colosseum and the Spanish Steps and through St. Peter's Square.
Helme, the overwhelmingly pre-race favourite, finished 8 minutes 11 seconds behind the winner.
Italy's Mario De Persio finished third in 2:30.24.
